PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SOCIALIST MOVEMENT OF GHANA KOFORIDUA COLLECTIVE – ON THE BIRTHDAY OF OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH

Read Time: 2 minutes

After the overthrow of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on February 24th,1966 and his subsequent death, there were strategically calculated plans to completely erase the good name of the founder of Ghana because of his revolutionary attempt to liberate the whole of Africa from the shackles of colonialism and neo-colonialism through the application of the principles of scientific socialism. When his opposers realized his very influential advocacy for PanAfricanism, there was an instruction by the then government to pull down and burn all documents about Kwame Nkrumah ranging from his pictures, books to journals even after his death.

Additionally, most of the successful projects he had completed and commissioned were changed from his name. Like every man has his own short falls Nkrumah had his but that was not enough grounds to cleanse his good name especially after he had been overthrown and had taken refuge in Guinea, where he was made a co-president in that country. However, it is obvious that even the good name of Nkrumah posed a threat to his opposers and their
descendants and that’s why till today they are engaged in the futile attempt to rewrite history.

Therefore, we the members of the Socialist Movement of Ghana Koforidua Collective upon realizing the political antecedents that characterized the continual activities perpetuated to distort the facts surrounding the immense contribution of the true founder of Ghana to our dear nation will never relent in our effort to propagate the good news about the Osagyefo and the need to continue the great vision and mission for this country.
Kwame Nkrumah implemented projects which created jobs for the youth through industrialization, provision of quality health care and education for the people of Ghana, better salary and pension schemes for Ghanaians, provision of necessary social amenities, improvements in the living conditions of citizens, to mention a few. Unfortunately, it is rather the sharp contrast of these policies that successive governments in recent times are practicing.

Socialist Movement of Ghana, Koforidua Collective through this press release is reminding all
patriotic Ghanaians about the birth, mission, vision and contribution of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the need to celebrate him on September 21st as the true founder of Ghana. This will not only renew our enthusiasm in moving this nation to a fully socialist state but also
position incumbent governments about their political and socio-economic mandate to better the
living conditions of the good people of Ghana.
