We used monies meant for construction of Covid-19 treatment centres to buy PPEs-Agyemang Manu

Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Minister of Health

The reason 12 earmarked districts across Ghana for the construction of coronavirus treatment centers could not materialize was because funds meant for the projects we diverted to procure PPEs.

Government of Ghana through the Health Ministry was supposed to construct 12 fully furnished Covid-19 treatment centers through a World Bank support fund in 2020.

However, this was not realised because, Minister designate for Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu claims the funds went into procurement of personal protective equipment for front line health workers in the country.

He made these comments during his vetting in Parliament and assured that the second tranche of the welfare support from the World Bank has been released and contractors have been engaged to return to work.

” The monies that we were supposed to have utilitised through the world bank welfare, almost all went into procurement of PPEs ,sanitizers, face masks, gowns for the doctors and all that. So the project halted a little bit .it is only now that the second tranche of the world bank support is giving us room to actually advance monies. We asked the contractors to prefinance and we will come on and I believe by close of this year ,all these treatment centers will have been completed” he disclosed.
