The Bibiani Collective of the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) joins progressive forces around the world to observe February 24, the day on which the western intelligence agencies and their local stooges overthrew the popularly elected government of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as “Ghana’s Day of Shame”.
We in Bibiani acknowledge the giant steps which the Nkrumah government took to improve our living and working conditions including the building of the Bibiani Estates, the Wood Complex and the Coffee Plantation.
Elsewhere in Ghana, the Nkrumah Government expanded access to such social services as education and health and established factories to provide employment to young people and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported goods.
The Nkrumah government’s commitment to the freedom of other African countries from the yoke of classical colonialism was expressed in the material and diplomatic assistance it gave to the national liberation movements in Africa.
The Nkrumah government also saw the unification of Africa under a continental union government as a means of ending the exploitation and domination of the African people by the forces of neo-colonialism and imperialism.
56 years after the overthrow of the Nkrumah government, the peoples of Africa are suffering intensified exploitation, which is expressed in the lack of access to such social services as housing, healthcare and education.
In Ghana, the country’s debt-stock is mounting and the country now has to spend more than 120 percent of total national revenue on debt-servicing and public sector emoluments.
The Bibiani Collective of the SMG calls on all the working people, youth and students, women and disadvantaged in Ghana and Africa to wage a determined battle against capitalist exploitation which is responsible for their suffering. The way forward to a future of prosperity for the African people lies in Socialism.
Down with Capitalism!
Down with Neocolonialism!
Forward with African Unity!
