The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has charged the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Okraku, to use on his election to the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to transform the country’s football leagues.
The Minister made the request when members of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the various Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairmen, on Monday, March 17, 2025, paid a curtesy call on him at the Ministry in Accra.
Mr. Kofi Adams used the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Kurt Okraku on his new CAF role as the sixth Ghanaian to achieve the feat, and charged him to let his position reflect in the development of football in Ghana.
The visit, however, was to officially introduce members of the GFA Executive Council and the Regional Football Associations to Hon. Kofi Adams and to wish him well in his new role as the sector minister.
The Minister underscored the need to put in place a strategy to revive the local leagues through the revitalisation of Colts Football and strengthen the grassroots to enhance the development of the sport, adding that, the leadership of the F.A must bring the league back to life.
He further advised the visitors to take keen interest in the growth of other Federations in order for them to benefit from the expertise of the F.A. The Minister also expressed his office’s commitment to collaborate and provide the necessary support to enhance the development of football in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Edwin Okraku, commended the Minister for his support and encouragement while emphasising the football governing body’s readiness to work closely with him for the success of the entire football ecosystem.
He touted the FA as the most organised and well-structured Federation in Ghana and assured the Minister of their effort to bring back the glory days as far as football is concerned.
Mr. Okraku further presented documents containing strategic measures to address the challenges of football noting that the game can progress with the concerted effort from all stakeholders.
In attendance were Senior officials from both the Ministry and the GFA, including the Vice President of the GFA, Mr. Mark Addo and the General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, as well as Executive Council and RFA members including Nana Oduro Sarfo, Eugene Noel Nobel, Samuel Aboabire, Patrick Akoto and Neil Amstrong Mortagbe.
