It is confirmed, NDC is majority in parliament. How come? Coach Aseidu Nketia sat calmly in the public gallery and got his men to outwit the noisy NPP side.
First, applying the learned lawyers like Dominic Ayine, Mahama Ayariga and the legal Maestro, Haruna Iddrisu, they stood firm to ensure a voting right for the Assin North MP (James Gyakye Quayson). In so doing, the NDC had secured the 137 votes and confident of a few NPP members votes. No wonder the team was not keen about applying article 93(1).
Secondly, the gallant men and women MPs of our great party stood their ground and matched the rude NPP MPs BOOT FOR BOOT, to ensure secret balloting in accordance with the law. Even the puffy ballot snatcher could not flee from the able midfielder, Hon Muntaka Mubarak of Asawasi, (Na Zongo boy ooo). The fruit of that long struggle is Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin as speaker of parliament.
Thirdly, the extra smart NDC chaps quickly switched their game plan soon after securing the slot of Speaker of Parliament. Credit to the master tactician, Johnson Aseidu Nketia. What followed was a calm demeanour; cool hearts and thoughtful heads. It was now time to slow down, go into dialogue, agree to cede the 1st and 2nd Dep Speaker slots for gold, said the tactician. So Joe Osei Owusu, an NPP MP was handed the 1st Dep Speaker position. Little did the loud mouthed Afenyo Markins and his bench know that it could be a bait. So that whenever there’s a crucial bill the Speaker will step away and once the 1st Dep takes the seat of speaker, he loses his voting right and the NPP would have lost strength.
Finally, the 2nd Dep Speaker position was also handed to the Independent candidate from Fomena (Andrew Amoako Asiamah), a restriction strategy that now bars him from sitting and doing business with the NPP side of the house. Why? Because article 96 of the constitution says “there shall be two Deputy Speakers of Parliament: (a) who shall be elected by the members of Parliament from among the members of Parliament, and (b) both of whom shall not be members of the same party So that the 1st Dep Speaker (Joe Osei Wusu) and the 2nd Dep Speaker (Andrew Amoako Asiamah) cannot both sit and do business with the NPP side of the house. How smart! Otherwise the NPP Government could offer Asiamah a ministerial position to cement their working relationship. But that too is lost on them.
As it stands, “I can confirm emphatically that in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, the NPP originally had 137+1, but now have 137-1. NPP is minority and NDC is majority.
IT IS FINISHED! And if Nana Addo’s pocket Supreme Justices do not grant a run-off, then the NDC will rule Ghana from parliament.
