CDHR CELEBRATES ICON OF JUSTICE, FEMI FALANA SAN, ON HIS 68th BIRTHDAY

Femi Falana SAN, Board of Trustees Chairman

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights {CDHR} heartily congratulates and celebrates our Board of Trustees Chairman, Femi Falana SAN, on the occasion of his 68th birthday. We join millions of well-meaning Nigerians at home and in the diaspora in honouring a steadfast human rights lawyer and fearless defender of justice.

Your life’s work stands as a powerful testament to courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. For decades, you have remained at the forefront of the struggle to protect the fundamental rights of ordinary Nigerians, giving voice to the voiceless and holding power accountable without fear or favour.

As a human rights lawyer, activist, and public intellectual, you have consistently demonstrated that the law is not merely a profession, but a vital instrument for social transformation. Your tireless advocacy, both in the courtroom and the public sphere, has strengthened Nigeria’s democratic space and inspired generations of young lawyers and human rights defenders to pursue justice with intergrity, conviction, and resolve.

On this special occasion, CDHR honours not only the years you have lived, but also the countless lives you have impacted and the institutions you have helped make more accountable. May this new chapter of your life bring renewed strength, wisdom, sound health, and continued fulfilment as you carry on this noble work and activities.

Your leadership and sacrifices within the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights {CDHR} remain a defining chapter in Nigeria’s human rights history. As a founding pillar and long-standing leader of the organisation, you helped build CDHR into one of the nation’s most respected voices against impunity, bad governance, arbitrary detention, and state repression.

Through CDHR and other movements, you mobilised lawyers, activists, students, and ordinary citizens to confront military dictatorship and demand accountability, often at great personal risk. That courageous work laid the foundation for many of the civil liberties Nigerians enjoy today.

The legacy of your years in CDHR continues to endure through the organisation’s unwavering advocacy for freedom of expression, fair trial, and the protection of vulnerable clusters across the country.

You not only defended cases in court; you built an institution, nurtured a movement, and established a standard of principled activism that remains highly relevant in Nigeria’s evolving democracy.

Your example within CDHR reminds us that integrity, sustained and collective action remains essential in holding power accountable and defending democratic values.

From all of us @ CDHR, we celebrate, honour, and rejoice with you as you continue to flourish on the path of greatness.

Happy 68th Birthday, Comrade Femi Falana SAN.
