The United Nations Security Advisor and Representative for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Ms. Lihong Shen, has facilitated the mobilisation of peace shirts and footwear from the Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce as part of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Ghana’s endorsement of President John Dramani Mahama’s nationwide Constituency Games.
Speaking to the Ghanaian media during the Peace Shirts and Peace Canvas donation and handing-over ceremony held at the ESP Hotel in Ghana, Ms. Shen said her facilitation role involving the Ghana Sports Authority and the Presidential Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee was strictly aimed at supporting the Government of Ghana’s political will to empower grassroots sports development.

The UN Security Advisor said sports had the potential to unite people and communities from different backgrounds and promote peaceful coexistence irrespective of ethnicity, religion, colour, language, political affiliation or social status.
Ms. Shen described the maiden Constituency Games initiative under the Mahama administration as a unique opportunity for everyone to contribute to national development and peace, urging Ghanaians not to view the Ghana Constituency Games through political lenses.
She commended the Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce for its investment in Ghana’s current and future generations and acknowledged the hard work and open-door approach of the Government of Ghana’s Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee, chaired by Mr. Samson Deen.
The UNDSS representative concluded her remarks with an appeal to individuals possessing guns to lay them down and adhere to United Nations non-violent protocols, while granting peace the opportunity to prevail as the government undertakes its nationwide constituency sporting activities.
