The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) just wrapped up its Second National Congress, uniting delegates under the theme “Imperialism in Crisis: Pan-African Solidarity and Socialist Transformation.”
Here are the key resolutions and commitments that came out of the Congress:
🚩National Focus: The SMG will intensify grassroots political education and organisation to fight against neoliberal policies that cause inequality and poverty in Ghana. The movement also called for a halt to the privatisation of national assets and demanded greater democratic participation for workers, women, and youth.
🚩Pan-African Unity: The congress condemned the plunder of the DRC’s resources and stood in solidarity with the peoples of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) – Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger – in their struggles against imperialist domination. SMG also condemned Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara and committed to strengthening Pan-African solidarity.
🚩International Solidarity: The SMG declared its support for oppressed peoples globally, condemning the genocide in Palestine and demanding an end to the Israeli apartheid regime. They called for the lifting of the US blockade on Cuba, affirmed solidarity with Venezuela, and rejected imperialist aggression against Iran.
The Congress concluded with an “Osagyefo Night” celebrating Ghana’s founding father, Kwame Nkrumah, and his vision for genuine Pan Africanism. Reggae music performed by The Freedom Band saw comrades wrapping up the Congress in a vibrant festival of song and dance.
