The 80th anniversary of the 5th Pan African Congress, held in Manchester, United Kingdom, will be marked in Accra from November 18th to 19th, 2025, by the Pan African Progressive Front. As of yesterday, many organizations and individuals from as many as 40 African countries and the diaspora had registered to participate in this important event, which will be opened by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama(@JDMahama) of Ghana.

The organizers are also working feverishly to secure the participation of President Ibrahim Traore, of Burkina Faso who has undoubtedly become a strident advocate of Pan Africanism. As we move towards the anniversary, it is important to remind ourselves of the political orientation of the Congress, which was undoubtedly Socialist.

In a declaration to the colonial powers at the time, the 5th Pan African Congress said “We condemn the monopoly of capital and the rule of private wealth and industry for private profit alone. Colonialism is inhumane and degrading, a form of fascism. The time has passed when we can ask politely for our rights. We claim them. Our objective is self-government and independence”.
