The Socialist Movement of Ghana – Ho Collective extends its revolutionary solidarity to the working people, women, children and the aged of Hohoe whose homes and livelihoods have been submerged by the recent heavy rainfall and flooding.
We have seen with pain the images of families displaced, properties destroyed, and working people rendered homeless overnight. For the working people who are already burdened by high cost of living, poor wages and economic hardship, this flood is not just a natural disaster – it is an addition of insult to injury.

We state as follows:
- We stand firmly with the affected people of Hohoe. Your pain is our pain. An injury to one is an injury to all.
- We call on the Government of Ghana, as a matter of urgency, to deploy NADMO and all relevant state agencies to Hohoe to provide immediate relief to the victims. The people need temporary shelter, beddings, food, clean drinking water and medical support NOW, not tomorrow.
- Beyond the immediate relief, we demand a thorough and transparent investigation into the root cause of the flooding in Hohoe. If investigations reveal that buildings have been erected on waterways due to the failure and negligence of city authorities, those structures must be removed to save many lives in the future.
- However, where demolition becomes necessary, we insist that affected persons, who are also victims of a failed planning system, must be duly compensated and provided with alternative land and support to relocate in dignity. We reject any approach that punishes the poor for the failures of the state.
The working people need the intervention of a caring government. The state exists to protect its most vulnerable, not to abandon them in their hour of devastation.

We call on all progressive forces, youth groups, and concerned citizens in the Volta Region to support the people of Hohoe in diverse ways.
We shall continue to monitor the situation and hold duty bearers accountable.
Solidarity forever!
