SMG DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR NKRUMAH’S LEGACY: RENAMING KOTOKA AIRPORT & END TO
FOREIGN SUBVERSION
The overthrow of Nkrumah was not just the removal of a leader—it was the sabotage of Ghana’s
destiny. Had Nkrumah’s industrialization and socialist policies continued uninterrupted, Ghana
would today be competing with China as a global economic power. Instead, successive governments
have continued the shameful betrayal of his legacy, erasing his achievements from public
consciousness while glorifying those who served the interests of foreign exploiters.
It is intolerable that the name of Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Kotoka, a man who actively participated in this
treachery, continues to be honored on Ghana’s most important gateway to the world. We demand
the immediate renaming of Kotoka International Airport to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah International
Airport. Ghana must celebrate patriotism, not disloyalty.
NKRUMAH AND MAO ZEDONG: A SHARED VISION FOR A NEW WORLD
Nkrumah and Mao Zedong shared a revolutionary vision—one rooted in the liberation of oppressed
peoples and the construction of an independent, socialist world free from Western domination.
Both men understood that real independence required economic self-sufficiency, industrialization,
and a rejection of imperialist interference.
Mao’s China, once dismissed by Western powers, has risen to become a global force precisely because
it resisted foreign manipulation, invested in its own people, and pursued a long-term socialist
agenda. If Ghana had followed Nkrumah’s roadmap, we would today be a continental leader in
industry, science, and innovation.
To reflect on this critical history and reassert Nkrumah’s vision for Africa’s future, the Socialist
Movement of Ghana invites all progressive forces to our Public Lecture on:
Theme: “Africa and China: In the Effort to Construct a New World – The Perspective of Mao and
Nkrumah”
Speaker: Dr. Li Bo, Chief Executive of the Guancha Syndicate and Senior Fellow of the Tricontinental
Institute for Social Research.
Date: Monday, February 24, 2025
Time: 5:00 PM
Venue: Forecourt, SMG Headquarters, On the George Walker Bush Highway, next door to the Nogahil
Hotel.
This lecture will examine how China, under Mao’s leadership, successfully resisted imperialism,
built a self-sustaining economy, and secured its place in the modern world—lessons Ghana must
urgently apply today.
CALL TO ACTION: NKRUMAH’S VISION MUST BE REVIVED
The Socialist Movement of Ghana demands:
- The immediate renaming of Kotoka International Airport to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
International Airport. Ghana must reject the glorification of coup plotters and instead honor
its true national heroes. - An end to foreign political interference. Western powers and their local agents must be prevented
from derailing Ghana’s self-determined path once again. - A return to Nkrumah’s socialist vision. Ghanaian politicians, regardless of party affiliation,
must abandon their corrupt, capitalist betrayals and commit to the industrialization and
economic liberation that Nkrumah envisioned.
The future of Ghana depends on whether we choose the path of Nkrumah and Mao—self-reliance,
industrial development, and Pan-African unity—or continue the neocolonial stagnation imposed
on us since 1966.
This is not just a call to remembrance; it is a demand for action. Ghana must rise, reclaim its destiny,
and complete the work of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
End.
