REVOLUTIONARY SOCIALIST MOVEMENT (RSM)
STOP THE POLITICAL KILLINGS IN OSUN!PROSECUTE THOSE WHO THREATEN OPPOSITION SUPPORTERS — END THE RULE OF GANGS!

PRESS STATEMENT 12 August, 2026

The Revolutionary Socialist Movement (RSM) strongly condemns the growing violence and political killings ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
Reports indicating 29 deaths arising from 73 incidents ahead of the polls are a frightening warning of what happens when elections become a battleground for politicians and their armed supporters.

It’s disturbing that Osun East Senator Francis Fadahunsi issued death threats against members of the Accord Party in Ilesa ahead of Saturday’s election. If established, such threats must not be dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric. We demand an immediate, transparent investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible for threatening, attacking or killing political opponents, regardless of their party, position or connections.
The RSM rejects the politics of intimidation, thuggery and political assassination. Elections must not become a licence for politicians and their gangs to terrorise ordinary people.

END THE RULE OF POLITICAL GANGS
For decades, working people have been forced to choose between competing political gangs whose principal concern is often the accumulation of wealth, control of public resources and political power—not the welfare of workers, farmers, young people, traders and the poor.
We cannot continue this way. The billions controlled by governments have not ended unemployment, insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, inadequate education or the worsening living conditions of ordinary Nigerians. Instead, political elites fight over access to public wealth while workers and young people are expected to endure hunger, unemployment and insecurity.

We say enough!
What Nigeria needs is not another gang taking over from another gang. We need a revolutionary transformation of society in which political and economic power is placed in the hands of working people and the wealth of society is used to meet human needs rather than private enrichment.

VOTE FOR THE ALTERNATIVE — VOTE AAC
The RSM calls on workers, youths, poor farmers, students, traders and all oppressed people in Osun to reject political violence, vote-buying, intimidation and the politics of the old establishment.
We urge voters to consider the African Action Congress (AAC) as a political alternative to the parties and politicians responsible for perpetuating the existing system. But voting alone will not change society.

Our vote must be accompanied by organisation, mobilisation and struggle. Workers and oppressed people must build independent organisations capable of challenging whoever emerges from the election and demanding accountability.

The real alternative is a mass movement of workers and oppressed people fighting for decent jobs, living wages, quality public education and healthcare, affordable housing, democratic rights and control over the resources of society.

The RSM therefore demands:
Immediate investigation into all 73 reported incidents of electoral violence and the 29 deaths.

Prosecution of all individuals responsible for killings, attacks and threats, irrespective of political status.

An immediate investigation into the alleged death threats attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi and prosecution if the allegations are substantiated.

An end to the use of political thugs and armed gangs during elections.

Protection for all voters, candidates and political activists, regardless of party affiliation.

An end to the looting and privatisation of public wealth for the benefit of political elites.

The building of a mass movement capable of replacing the rotten political establishment with workers’ and people’s power.

The people of Osun must not be forced to choose between different political gangs competing for control of public wealth.

Vote for the alternative.
Vote AAC.Organise. Mobilise.

Revolt against oppression.

Forward to a Socialist Nigeria!
