Retraction and Unqualified Apology to Prof Ama Ata Aidoo, Family and Friends by Wesley Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association National President, Executives and entire body.
We the WGHS Old Girls’ Association hereby retract and render an unqualified apology for the regrettable statement posted by WhatsApp last Saturday 12th September 2021, regarding the purported demise of Prof Ama Ata Aidoo.
We apologize profusely for the blunder of not cross-checking on the unfounded rumor. We recognize that our failure to cross-check led to the circulation of the purported news which has resulted in great distress, shock and embarrassment for Aunty Ama, family and friends both in Ghana and around the world. We accept responsibility for the harm that our actions have caused and plead for forgiveness.
We know that words alone cannot sufficiently make amends for the pain, suffering and distress caused. Nevertheless we appeal to our dear mentor, mother and sister as well as to her Family, Friends and all loved ones to accept this unqualified apology, which is rendered in true humility and shame.
We wish Aunty Ama many healthy years and pray for the privilege to continue basking in her limelight as the years go by. We pray that by God’s grace, Aunty Ama, Family and Friends will make room in their hearts to accept our apology. We pray that her usual generosity of spirit and largeness of heart will allow her and family to accept this unqualified apology.
