Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, has successfully secured the strong support of Colombia for Ghana’s reparations agenda on the global stage.
During a high-level engagement in Bogotá, the Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, affirmed her country’s commitment to co-sponsoring Ghana’s resolution at the United Nations. This significant endorsement marks a major step forward in Ghana’s efforts to build international consensus on the issue of reparations.
Hon. Quayson underscored that the initiative transcends financial considerations, emphasizing that it is fundamentally about restoring dignity, justice, and historical truth. He reiterated Ghana’s determination to lead global advocacy for the recognition of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade as among the gravest crimes against humanity.
This diplomatic engagement not only advances Ghana’s reparations campaign but also further strengthens bilateral relations between Ghana and Colombia, paving the way for deeper cooperation on shared historical and developmental interests.
