Dear General Secretary

RE: Demand for an Emergency General Meeting of the Ghana Journalists Association

I refer to my previous letter on the above subject dated April 7 2022, demanding an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA). The purpose of the EGM was to define a path towards the association’s general elections, which have been delayed for about one-and-a-half years.

I also refer to the resolution signed by over 100 members of the GJA, which was attached to the letter. Per the constitutional provisions of the GJA, the EGM should have been held not later than 10 working days after receipt of the letter and resolution; that is not later than Thursday, April 21 2022.

Today is Tuesday, April 26 2022. I have not had a formal acknowledgement of the letter and resolution; nether have I received any notification in preparation for the EGM, as required by the GJA constitution.

Per Article 35 B (i), “The General Secretary shall publish a notice for an Emergency General Meeting at the national level at least seven (7) working days before the date of the EGM”. That has not happened.

I regret to say that the minders of GJA are developing a penchant for ignoring and even abusing the rights of members at the least opportunity. Not only have the minders refused to hold the elections, but they have gone ahead with all manner of assignments and agreements without the mandate of members of the association. Now, members are even being denied their right to call an EGM. This will NOT be allowed to prevail.

Kindly take notice, and notice is hereby served, that the signatories to the resolution, without any further notice, intend to assert their rights and privileges per the GJA constitution. They are determined to use whatever avenues and platforms they deem fit to seek redress, if the GJA continues to violate their rights as provided for in the association’s constitution.

Yours sincerely

Gayheart Mensah
