MY PREDICTION – BY ABENA OSEGU BOATENG

Read Time: 2 minutes

I am not a prophet and have never pretended to be receiving messages from God Almighty.

As a fact, I think that all those men and women who claim to be in constant conversion with God are charlatans, hell bent on tricking unsuspecting people to part with their Cedis and pesewas. There can be no good reason why God will only talk to these vulgar people whose occupation is to fleece the poor and the vulnerable.

The prediction I am about to make is a very easy one. All you need to make this accurate prediction is to know a bit of Ghanaian history and the characters involved in the unfolding drama.

Somebody who has been critical of the Akufo-Addo administration was killed in Ejura in Ashanti Region. It turned out that he had been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was not a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as was speculated.

In the process of his burial and later, angry people from Ejura spontaneously demonstrate against his killing and call for justice. The government decides to send soldiers to quell the demonstration.

The authorities knew that soldiers are not trained to quell demonstrations. They knew that they were asking soldiers to perform police duties.

It is however unclear if they could predict the full consequences of their extreme foolishness.

The soldiers went to Ejura. They fired live ammunition into the crowd of demonstrators killing two and severely injuring four.

Since then, an angry public has condemned the government to ras and insisted on punishment for the killer and justice for the killed.

The reaction of the Government is to set up a three-member committee to establish the facts for official reaction.

Knowing all the people involved, my prediction is very simple. The committee will sit in Kumasi to take the testimony of some people. It will then retire to write its report. The report will claim that government did no wrong. It will blame the protestors for being violent. It may even go to the extent of blaming some people in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for inciting the violence. It may also make recommendations for compensation for the victims.

Let’s wait and see!
