President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has assured the nation that the committee he has
appointed to gather information on corruption and related matters will not engage in
witch-hunting.
In a video circulating on social media, President Mahama said the task of the committee
is not to investigate cases of corruption but to collect and collate relevant information on
corruption.
At a meeting with some unidentified personalities, he joked that members of the
committee “have no brooms to fly at night and I can assure people that they are not going
to witch-hunt.”
President Mahama said since he won the election, he and his aides have been receiving
a lot of information about the looting of state resources and corruption and the setting up
of the ORAL Committee (Operation Recover All Loot) is intended to provide a focal point
where all that evidence is directed.
The ORAL Committee is chaired by Mr. Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, Member of Parliament
for North Tongu and has four other members.
The four other members are retired commissioner of police, Kofi Boakye, former Auditor
General Yao Domelevo, Raymond Archer, an investigative journalist and Martin Kpebu, a
legal practitioner.
