Alert: Nationwide Protests on September 17, From US Embassy in Accra

Event: Protests are expected to take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in all regional capitals of Ghana. In Accra, protestors have said they intend to gather at Obra Spot (at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where the Kwame Nkrumah statue is erected) at 8:00am and march through Kwame Nkrumah Avenue past the Farisco traffic light, Trader’s Union Congress (TUC), and National Theatre, to Parliament House. The protestors have said they will then proceed to the Electoral Commissioner’s (EC) office, near the site for the National Cathedral. A significant police presence and traffic disruptions are expected.

Avoid demonstrations and leave the area if unexpectedly in the vicinity of protests.
Monitor local media for updates.
