Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Alex Cudjoe Acquah at today 13th February 2026 brief the Press about the interception of a Kia Rhino with ammunition, and a DAF long trailer with 4,000 parcels of compressed Indian hemp.
According to DCOP Alex Cudjoe Acquah, on 8th February 2026, the Oti Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID/Oti), acting on credible intelligence, conducted an intelligence led operation which led to the interception of a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS-4677-17, travelling from Accra toward Kpandai in the Northern Region.
DCOP Alex Acquah Stated that, a thorough search of the truck revealed one locally manufactured single -barrel shotgun and twenty-one boxes of ammunition, comprising a total of five hundred and twenty-five (525) rounds of Lion AAA and BB cartridges. He said the items had been canceled with building materials in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Mr. Alex Acquah again said the driver, Abubakari Salam, age 35, and his mate , Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, age 19, were arrested in connection with the case.
The DCOP said both the driver and his mate were charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority and giving bribe to influence public Officer during the investigation with an amount of 5,000.
Alex Cudjoe Acquah said, on 12th February,2026 both accused person were subsequently arraigned before the Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Y. Keriba, Eqs, accused Kabuja Tademe Kwadwo pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority, with explanation, and not guilty was entered therein, after explanation.
He also pleaded not guilty to both Conspiracy to commit crime to wit possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority.
Abubakari Salam also pleaded not guilty to both Conspiracy to commit crime to wit possession of firearm and ammunition without lawful authority and giving bribe influence Public Officer.
The Court admitted both accused person to bill in the sun of thirty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 30,000) each with one surety, in respect of the charges of conspiracy and bribery. The case was adjourned to 5th March, 2026 for further hearing.
DCOP Alex Cudjoe Acquah again brief the Press about a separate operation on 10th February, 2026. He said, the command acting on intelligence, detailed officers intercepted a DAF long trailer with registration number GW 1943-09 and arrested Amidu Jubril, 40, a Nigerian.
According DCOP Alex, during a search of the vehicle, officers observed that although the trailer was apparently empty, but it had been specially modified with hidden compartment scaled with six metal plates in the truck.
Mr. Alex Acquah added that, the concealed compartment, located beneath the trailer, were opened in the presence of accused Amidu Jubril.
DCOP Alex said, the search revealed four thousand (4,000) parcels of compressed Indian hemp wrapped in yellow masking tape and carefully concealed within the compartments.
According to DCOP Alex, the truck has been impounded, and all exhibit recovered have been secured and retained for evidential purposes.
On 12th February, 2026 the accused was arraigned before the Jasikan Circuit Court for the possession of narcotics without lawful authority and was remanded into police custody to reappear on 19th February, 2026 for further hearing.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alex Cudjoe Acquah, start that, the Oti Region Police wishes to assure the public that sustained operations are ongoing to remove illegal weapons and narcotic drugs from the communities. He said, the police remain committed to combating drug trafficking and related offences and will continue to work closely with other security regulatory agencies to bring offenders to justice.
He again said, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police ( IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yuhono and the Police Administration, he congratulate all Officers and the members of the public involved in the two successful operations.
He also encourage the general public to continue to support the police by providing timely and credible information to help prevent crime and maintain safety in the communities.
