Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has eulogised the leadership and legacy of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, particularly his efforts towards the decolonisation of Africa and his enduring popularity in Russia, where he remains a respected figure.

He also paid tribute to former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, describing his leadership as wise and balanced and strongly aligned with the principles of the UN Charter.

He was speaking during a high-level engagement with Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, which is expected to cover domestic issues, continental affairs and broader areas of cooperation between Ghana and Russia.
