Mass Personnel Exodus Growing in Israeli Army Amid Wave of Resignations

DayofPal—The Israeli army has warned of a potential “mass personnel exodus” as hundreds of officers and non-commissioned officers submit resignation requests, according to Israeli media reports.

The daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that around 500 officers and NCOs serving in the regular forces, not reservists, have asked to leave their posts.

While the newspaper did not specify when the requests were filed, it said the number reflects a worsening manpower crisis affecting all ranks and age groups.

Military officials reportedly fear the trend will continue, with more permanent personnel expected to seek resignation in the coming period.

The army has cautioned that the situation has reached a “boiling point,” raising concerns over its operational effectiveness.

The report linked the resignations to low salaries, prolonged military service during the Gaza war, and delays in approving legislation that would increase pension benefits for soldiers and officers by 7 to 11 percent. The Knesset has yet to pass the proposed amendments.

According to the newspaper, the army is struggling to retain experienced personnel, warning that continued attrition could lead to a decline in overall military performance.

Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza, which began in October 2023, has resulted in the deaths of nearly 70,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left much of the territory devastated.
