This Government Is Turning Compassion Into Action for Young Girls — Ama Pratt

Spokesperson and Press Secretary to the Vice President, Ama Pratt, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the empowerment and well-being of women and girls, emphasizing that compassion and service remain central to national leadership under H.E. President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on behalf of Vice President H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the Women in Gospel Music (WIGM) “Gratitude 2025” celebration themed “Our God Reigns,” Ama Pratt commended the organization for extending its ministry beyond music to address pressing social needs, notably, menstrual hygiene challenges among young girls.

“This Government is turning compassion into action for young girls,” she stated on behalf of the Vice President. “When we empower a girl to stay in school, we empower a family, and we strengthen a nation. Every sanitary pad distributed is an act of dignity, hope, and inclusion.”

She highlighted the alarming reality that one in four girls in rural northern Ghana miss school during their menstrual periods due to lack of access to sanitary pads and inadequate hygiene facilities. This, she noted, leads to learning losses and reduced confidence among young girls.

Ama Pratt said the government, under President Mahama’s leadership, continues to advance policies and programmes aimed at supporting women and girls particularly in education, health, and social protection.

“This administration is deeply committed to ensuring that no girl is left behind because of her period. True leadership, as the Vice President often reminds us, is compassion in motion turning empathy into real, lasting impact,” she added.

She commended Rev. Dr. Mary Ghansah, Abena Ruthy, and the leadership of Women in Gospel Music for their initiative to provide sanitary products to girls in rural communities, describing it as “faith in action” and a demonstration of the true spirit of gratitude.
