Galamsey has heavily impacted arable lands and water bodies across the country and this has ignited intense public debate and backlash.

Despite efforts by government to clamp down on the practice, the menace has escalated to catastrophic proportions.

Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, Professor Nana Ama Klutse has called to an immediate halt to mining in water bodies.

According her, armed water guards will be soon be deployed by government to protect water bodies across the country from the activities of illegal miners.

“In fact we don’t allow mining in a certain buffer area in our water bodies, so everybody mining in water body is illegal activities in which the person can face the law” She said.

Professor Nana Ama Klutse emphasized the urgent need to halt illegal mining activities in Ghana due to the country’s water emergency.

She made this profound statement during a courtesy call with the Climate Communication Network at the EPA office in Accra.
