US Pressures Venezuela to Maintain Dollar Hegemony, Says Brazilian Analyst

The recent threats from the US against Venezuela cannot be explained solely by interest in oil, stated Cibele Vieira, director of the Unified Petroleum Workers’ Federation.

The objective is also to protect the global hegemony of the dollar, since international oil trade has always strengthened the US currency, according to her.

Vieira recalled that Washington has historically sought to influence Venezuelan resources (as in 2019) and warned that the current situation is even more serious, with the risk of military intervention under the pretext of combating drug trafficking—a narrative used to justify US operations in the Caribbean.

The Caracas government views these actions as provocations and an attempt to destabilize the region, in violation of international agreements governing the area.
