The Council of Madina Zongo Chiefs, led by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Salmad Mohammed Alhassan, paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.
The visit was primarily to congratulate President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their decisive victory in the 2024 general elections. The delegation also used the occasion to discuss pressing issues affecting the Madina Zongo community, including land litigation, education, and overall development.
One key highlight of the discussions was the recent reduction in Hajj fares. The Muslim chiefs expressed deep appreciation to President Mahama for fulfilling his promise and making the pilgrimage more accessible to Ghanaian Muslims.
In response, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang thanked the chiefs for their visit and their continuous efforts to improve the welfare of the Madina Zongo community. She reiterated the government’s commitment to working in the best interest of all Ghanaians, emphasizing plans to expand access to education and implement policies that promote national development.
“The government remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring equitable development for all communities in Ghana,” she assured.
The meeting ended with a renewed sense of collaboration between the government and traditional leaders in advancing the interests of the people of Madina Zongo.
