The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has on behalf of the Ministry and Ghanaians, congratulated the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on his historic appointment as the 2nd Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), saying, that the prestigious appointment is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Ghana.

In a statement dated 28th April, 2025, the Minister stated that the appointment is a powerful recognition of Mr. Okraku’s dedication, leadership, and relentless commitment to the growth of football both nationally and across the African continent.

According to him, the new role offers Ghana an enhanced voice and a strengthened platform in continental football governance while serving as an inspiration to the new generation of Ghanaian and African sports leaders to aspire to excellence and global influence.

He, however, believes the new chapter presents an even greater opportunity to deepen the renewal of Ghana’s domestic game – the Ghana Premier League.

Meanwhile, in a separate press statement with the same date, the Sports Minister also extended his warmest congratulatory message to Mr. Richard Akpokavie on his election as President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and all newly elected executives.

The message touted Mr. Akpokavie’s leadership skills as the reason behind his election which reposes confidence in his vision for the Olympic, marking the beginning of a promising chapter for Ghanaian sports.

The Ministry expressed its readiness to collaborate with the GOC to deepen engagement with all national federations, strengthen governance structures, and ensure mechanisms that support both elite and grassroots sustainable funding for sports development.

The GOC is also tasked to complete the OlympAfrica Juvenile Sports Excellence Centre at Amasaman for talent development and Olympic excellence.

Mr. Kofi Addams further encouraged the GOC to actively leverage resources from the Olympic Solidarity Fund and other streams within the Olympic Movement to ensure that Ghana secures consistent support for year-round athlete training programs, technical officials’ development, and sports infrastructure projects.

However, he bemoaned the limited representation of women in key leadership roles within the newly constituted GOC administration as he believes their presence and active participation are crucial in achieving an inclusive and representative sports governance structure.

He, thus, look forward to greater efforts by the new GOC to strengthen and expand women’s inclusion at all levels of administration, ensuring a balanced and forward-looking sports ecosystem while pledging the ministry’s unflinching support at any given time.
