The Social Movement of Ghana , has indicated that the current hardship in the country, is as a result of the draconian policies by President Akufo-Addo.
According to the movement, the President with his capitalist inclination, has run the country along that path which has eventually caused hardship in the country.
The General Secretary of the Movement, Kwesi Pratt, said the draconian policies has been necessitated by the budget deficit, skyrocketing national debts of Ghc291.6 billion due to poor management of the country.
Speaking at the1st National Delegates Congress in Winneba over the weekend to transit from a socialist forum into a movement, Mr Pratt further blamed the current administration for electricity disruption which is affecting production and productivity.
The effect of these draconian measures, he noted has taken a devastating consequences for the working people of the country.
“Since January this year, the price of petroleum products, has been increased four times. The VAT rate has been increased and government has imposed a sanitation and banking sector reform tax”, he stressed.
In view of this, the SMG , has expressed it desire to enhance its participation in the struggles of workers for improved living and working conditions.
On the international front, the General Secretary, lambasted President Akufo-Addo for providing the legal framework for the establishment of a U.S. military base in which he said has carried out military exercises which has jeopardized the security situation in Ghana.
Formed in 1993, the Socialist Forum of Ghana, has moved from one collective group into its current 29 collectives across the country with an emerging membership on university campuses.
Last weekend ‘s Congress which came off from July 30 to August 1, saw other socialist organizations from Brazil, South Africa, Mali, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cuba among others, in attendance.
