Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has criticized Gulf countries for hosting American military bases, arguing that they do not provide the protection regional governments expect.
In a message directed at Gulf states, Medvedev said those governments had allowed bases belonging to the United States Armed Forces on their territory while “naively expecting protection” in return.
He claimed the United States primarily uses such bases to defend Israel rather than safeguard the wider region.
“You allowed U.S. bases on your territory and naively expected protection from them.
“But the United States uses these bases to protect only one state (Israel).”
“Think carefully about whether you really need American bases,” Medvedev said, adding that they represent “not protection — but a threat.”
Medvedev’s remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and debate over the role of U.S. military deployments across the Gulf region.
