A two-term Ekiti State Governor and one time minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has publicly dismissed claims by former Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi, to the effect that the duo collaborated to pioneer the establishment of the opposition coalition.

Fayemi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reiterated his unwavering commitment to the party while dispelling Amaechi’s claim of his involvement in forming an opposition, known as the Africa Democratic Coalition (ADC).

This statement comes after Amaechi had said he and Fayemi initiated discussions about the opposition coalition before it was expanded to include other politicians.

The former governor of Rivers State had made the claim on an X Space on Saturday.

“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi had said.

However, on Sunday, Fayemi dismissed Amaechi’s assertions, reiterating what he called his his loyalty to the APC.

This was contained in a press statement issued by Fayemi’s head of media office, Ahmad Sajoh.

Parts of the statement read: “In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit.

“It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State.

“At various public forums, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the party, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”
