VICTORY FOR FREE EXPRESION

Read Time: 2 minutes

The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) joins the multitude of advocates of free expression throughout the world in congratulating Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks on his victory over forces which seek to silence the independent media. Indeed, the decision of a London Court, that Mr. Assange cannot be extradited to the United States of America to stand trial for espionage is most refreshing.
As far as we are concerned, Mr. Assange is not a criminal and immediate steps ought to be taken to free him from unjustified detention. Especially as there are credible reports that his health is failing.

All Mr. Assange did was to publish official records which expose blatant violation of international law leading to genocide and the blatant murder of innocent civilians.
It is strange that those who violated the rights of people with impunity and committed genocide are walking free while Mr. Assange continues to wallow in prison. We salute the fair minded judges in the British judiciary who in the face of huge odds continue to uphold principles of free expression.

We declare our unflinching solidarity with Mr. Assange.
