Press Release Issued By The Sunyani Collective Of The Socialist Movement Of Ghana On The Founder’s Day.

Read Time: 2 minutes

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is undoubtedly the most illustrious son Ghana has ever produced and
Africa has ever had.

Former President JEA Mills of blessed memory saw the need to honour him and therefore
instituted 21st of September as Founder’s Day to reaffirm the fact that Nkrumah was the
founder of Ghana. The Founder’s Day has strategically been altered and fixed on the 4th of
August by the President Akuffo Addo led the government to suit their political agenda at the
expense of the collective realization of Ghanaians to honour such a true hero of this Ghana.
Dr. Nkrumah once echoed, “I am in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch
which I have lit in Ghana and Africa. Long after I am dead and gone, the light will continue
to burn and be borne aloft, giving light and guidance to all people.” In effect his values and
principles will continue to stand the test of time no matter the humanly attempts to discredit
him.

As part of the quote above he reiterates that his legacy will be carried along even long after
he is gone. It is to this effect that the Socialist Movement of Ghana, ‘Sunyani Collective’
deem it a responsibility to keep watch and ensure the right thing is done. We call on the
current Akuffo Addo-led government to do the needful by reversing the glories Dr Kwame
Nkrumah deserves back to him and with immediate effect.

Dr. Nkrumah is always credited for the industrialization of the nation and jobs for the youth.
Currently, as we speak under the incumbent government, corruption has become the order of
the day, not draining the country of hooping resources which could be used to revamp the
Nkrumah-initiated industrialization projects if not building new ones to greatly reduce the
recent youth unemployment canker.

As said by the great man, “the forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the
superimposed influences that keep us apart”. We are focused, undistracted, and immovable to
fight for what is right.

We, therefore, urge all socialist movements in the country as well as civil citizens to be true
bearers of the Nkrumah light and save the future of this country because Nkrumah never dies.
Long live SMG!
Long Osagyefo!
Long live Socialists!
Long live Ghana!

Convenor for Sunyani Collective – SMG
