ZANETOR RAWLINGS IN TROUBLE?

Read Time: 2 minutes

Zanetor Rawlings, Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korley Constituency.

The daughter of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, the publicly acclaimed founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)appears to be in trouble.

Zanetor Rawlings, Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korley Constituency in Accra is being seriously challenged by Meredith Naakai Lamptey who has deep roots in the constituency once represented by her late father in Parliament.

Meredith’s father, David Lamptey did not just represent the constituency in Parliament, he was reported to be one of the most important financial backbones of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

David Lamptey who dealt in oil and agro chemicals was reported to be a very close associate of former president J.E.A Mills and credited with providing much of the funds needed by the NDC campaign.

Whiles Zanetor appears to be hanging on the reputation or popularity of ex- President Rawlings, Meredith is focusing not so much on her father but the lack of development in the Constituency.

Meredith says that the youth in the Klottey Korle Constituency lack job opportunities and the community generally does not have structures to address the welfare needs of the constituents.

She is also playing on the fact that unlike Zanetor, she hails from the constituency which has for about 10years been seen as troubled.

Some party faithfuls claim that Zanetor has failed to unite the rank and file of the party and that Meredith’s challenge can be serious.

Meredith told the press that “As a daughter of the soil, I shall formally engage party delegates as well as the rank and file of the party to elaborate my plans.”
