ZAMBIA-CUBA TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH SYSTEM TIES

Read Time: < 1 minute

HEALTH minister SYLVIA MASEBO says Zambia has a lot to learn from Cuba’s healthcare system, which has demonstrated resilience even in the face of hard times.

Ms MASEBO noted Cuba’s healthcare system when Ms MILENA PIEDRA, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Zambia, paid a courtesy call on her today.

She said the two countries have enjoyed a mutual relationship spanning over 50-years, hence the need for renewed collaboration in areas of mutual interest like health.

Ms MASEBO said Cuba was instrumental in various malaria response programmes, training of human resources for health and technical support through exchange programmes.

And Ms PIEDRA says her government will continue working with Zambia, as the two countries have a lot to share.

She said her country had invested in the health sector and has since developed to self-reliance thereby to the extent of producing vaccines in a bid to protect people from pandemics like the Covid-19.
