WORRIED: The prostitution of Ghana’s foreign policy…

I have been deeply worried this morning by an emerging and very unprincipled trend in the pursuit of Ghana’s foreign policy. It is obvious that some in government and their supporters are tilting towards the prostitution of Ghana’s foreign policy by insisting that the only thing that should matter is what Ghana gets from its relations with other countries.

They list what #Ghana can gain from her relations with other countries, such as visa-free travel for citizens, grants and donations, trade deals, and educational opportunities. One #NDC communicator said that Ghana should be neutral in all international disputes and position itself in a way that enables her to benefit from all countries.

By extension, what these people are saying is that it would have been alright to have excellent relations with apartheid South Africa for as long as that regime offered us Visa-free travel and so-called economic benefits. What a shame! Nkrumah taught us to be principled in all we do especially in the field of international relations and Ghana’s foreign policy ought to be anchored on the principles of Pan-Africanism, anti-imperialism, peace, and social progress.

We have a duty to support #national#liberation and insist on an international order founded on law. The principle of the right of every country or people to determine their own destiny must be upheld.
