WAFU U-20: Black Satellites defeat Burkina Faso to win tournament

Read Time: < 1 minute

Ghana’s Black Satellites rallied from a goal down to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 on Saturday, to win the 2020 WAFU Zone B Cup final.

The Burkinabe’s dominated play in the opening stages of the game and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Kouame Jean Fiacre Botue broke the deadlock for the Young Stallions after pouncing on a defensive error from Ghana.

The Black Satellites responded in the 40th minute through Daniel Afriyie Barnie who latched onto a free-kick by Precious Boah.

The Young Stallions went close to doubling their lead right before half-time but Hamed Quattara’s cross hit the woodwork to keep the game levelled.

Precious Boah scored from a free kick in the 79th minute from 35 yards to increase the lead for the Black Satellites but the Burkinabe’s raised concerns that the ball did not cross the line but the second assistant line referee would have none of it.

Ghana managed to hold onto the lead to clinch their first WAFU U-20 Zone B tournament.

Both teams have already booked a place in next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to be staged in Mauritania after making it to the finals.
