UPDATE: EMERGENCY MEETING ON 20% COLA

Read Time: < 1 minute

We extend warm regards of the Union to you and further wish to update you on the outcome of today’s (8th July, 2022) Emergency Meeting of the PSWU with Divisional Officers from the over 65 Institutions that make up the PSWU on the Request for 20% COLA and Matters Arising.

The meeting extensively discussed the worsening economic situation amid rising inflation and erosion of real value of wages and concluded on the need to press home the demand for a Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 20% of Basic Salary for Public Sector Workers to cushion them from the ongoing economic challenges. It is noteworthy that despite a formal request from the TUC (Ghana) to the President on COLA, there has not been a positive response.

Consequently all members of the PSWU will proceed on Strike effective Tuesday 19th July, 2022 after the 7-day mandatory notice has been served on the National Labour Commission (NLC).

We urge you to get ready for the pending industrial action, which is obviously the only option left to press home our demands for economic survival.

Thank you.
