The General Secretary of the National Concerned Drivers Association, Asonaba Nana Wiredu has indicated transport fares will see a ten per cent hike with effect from February 22, 2021.

In an interview with Ruth Okosso our news reporter, he mentioned that the outbreak of Covid19 had a telling effect on transport sector as drivers of commercial vehicles struggled to cope with the success and sustainability of their business.

Additionally, the high cost of fuel and strict adherence to spatial distancing as a means of curbing the spread of the coronavirus further added more salt to injury.

In a bid to address this exceedingly worrying situation, leadership of the National Concerned Drivers Association engaged government but both parties failed to reach a consensus despite thorough discussions and extensive consultations.

After all efforts to tackle this menace proved futile, the National Concerned Drivers Association was left with no other option than to announce a ten per cent hike in transport fares with effect from February 22, 2021.

According to the association, there has been increment in fuel prices several times this year without any adjustment in transportation fare. Asonaba Nana Wiredu further stated that this factor and hike in DVLA charges which has shot up to fifteen per cent, port charges levied on spare parts pegged at forty per cent and lubricants informed their decisions to increase fares.
