The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has encouraged students of the Design and Technology Institute (DTI) to embrace creativity, dream boldly, and use their skills to make meaningful contributions to society.
Speaking at the National Theatre ahead of the annual staging of Maria’s Love Story, Hon. Gomashie drew from her own journey in the arts to underscore the transformative power of theatre. She emphasized that creativity opens doors to endless possibilities and urged students to take full advantage of DTI’s unique blend of technical and artistic training.

“Don’t limit yourselves,” she advised. “Challenge your imagination and use every opportunity to grow.”

The Minister praised H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for appointing a professional from the creative industry to lead the tourism and culture sector, highlighting the essential role artists play in national development. She also reminded the students of their responsibility as ambassadors of both DTI and the nation, urging them to use their privileged access to quality education to uplift others.

“If this country is going to do well, it must respect those of us who create. Our culture, which fuels tourism, is shaped by storytellers, painters, poets, and artisans,” she said.

Hon. Gomashie further encouraged the students to act as ambassadors for both DTI and Ghana, stressing that they hold a unique advantage and must use it to make a difference.
“You have something many children in my constituency do not. If you don’t make it count, then you have shortchanged Miss Constance Swaniker and all those investing in your future,” she added, referring to DTI’s Founder.

Joining the Minister at the National Theatre were the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui; Mr. Divine Owusu Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and
Creative Arts; Miss Constance Swaniker, Founder of DTI; and Ms. Korkor Amarteifio, Director of the Institute for Music and Development and other very important sector stakeholders.

The Design and Technology Institute is a leading technical and vocational education institution in Ghana, specializing in integrating creative expression with technical training to prepare young people for careers in industry and entrepreneurship. The institute aims to become West Africa’s foremost industrial job training and prototype development centre.
