The Taxes of Ghanaians Belong to Ghanaians By RANSFORD GYAMPO

Dr Cadman Mills says he has a copy of the autopsy report of the death of his brother, President Atta Mills. So why go discuss this with the President? Is he a hospital archive or a Medical Doctor? Is this the most important thing to the people of the local community of President Mills? Did President Mills die mysteriously? Was he hail and hearty and died suddenly? What will an autopsy report do for anyone at this particular moment and point in time, when we are expected to keep government on its to ensure that it delivers on our bread and butter issues? We must not allow ourselves to be used in a manner that advances the selfish interest of some bitter individuals, and run down our own dignity.

Also, that the President Akufo-Addo overlooked development in Ekumfi because they voted against his MP, betrays a certain fundamental lack of understanding of his role as President. He insinuated similar sentiments some months ago, when he met some Chiefs in the Volta Region. This is very unpatriotic, and unpresidential. If the President doesn’t know that he is to serve as a father for all, regardless of who voted for or against him, then we truly made a mistake in electing him as our President.

The taxes of Ghanaians belong to Ghanaians. They are meant to be used to develop Ghana. They are not to be used to develop only areas that voted for the President. Unfortunately it appears the President is either too vindictive or ignorant about this. Come to think of it, how has he faired in developing regions like Ashanti that gave him all the votes? Has he done anything special and unprecedented in the Ashanti Region to make the place look like paradise?

As a human being, the President can be disappointed about the voting pattern of a people. But he cannot use this as a basis to marginalize them in terms of development, and marshal the guts to brazenly brag about it. Who are his handlers? Did it lie in his mouth to say what he said even if that was the truth? The Gas say “anokwale ni dwaa man l3, awieee”, to wit, the truth that destroys a nation must be shelved. So how come the President didn’t know this? Is it because he is on his way out?

It may be prudent for us to legislate about how Presidents must comport themselves when they are exiting power, and if the NPP truly has the men with courage, they must begin to dissociate themselves from some of these unpresidential comments of the President and wrestle their party from his claws. This is because, these comments do not make the party look good and would ultimately affect its electoral fortunes when not checked immediately.
