The Durban magistrate court has this morning sentenced the convicted Khaya Ngubane. Khaya Ngubane, a member of the ANC Youth League in Cator Manor, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for murdering Ayanda Ngila. The convict did not show any remorse during the trial and sentencing.
The defense counsel tried to appeal the conviction without any substance. The magistrate turned down that appeal and said no court would come to a different conclusion. They may petition the other court. The magistrate made remarks that you do not appeal on emotion but on facts and evidence presented.
Abahlali welcomes the sentencing, although it is a minimum. Although it can not also bring Ayanda Ngila. But, given the impunity we have experienced over the past we are relived. The family members umalume ka Ayanda no sisi wakhe said the same thing that although their wounds are still bleeding they are finding closure.
