SOLIDARITY MESSAGE FROM SOCIALIST FORUM OF GHANA TO NATIONAL UNION OF METALWORKERS OF SOUTH AFRICA ON THEIR ANNIVERSARY

Read Time: < 1 minute

Read full statement below:

In 1987 in South Africa, the Confederation of South Africa Trade Unions caused the merger
of 2 of its affiliates to form the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA)
which is celebrating 34 years of struggle for freedom, unity and solidarity of the working people
of South Africa.
NUMSA fought against the capitalist apartheid system of the racist ruling class and helped to
install majority rule and the building of a non-racial society. NUMSA is now at the forefront
of the next stage of the struggle which is the liberation of the working people of South Africa
and the world from capitalist exploitation.
In its battle against the neo-liberal market austerity measure instituted by the ANC under
pressure from International and national capital and the rejection of the fundamentals of the
National Liberation struggle, NUMSA has been compelled to chart an independent progressive
pro-worker path leading to the formation of a progressive labor federation and a workers’ party
known as the Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party.
The Socialist Forum of Ghana sends its felicitations on this auspicious anniversary and extends
its solidarity to all members of NUMSA and the revolutionary cadres of the SRWP, the
vanguard of working-class struggle in South Africa. We pledge to work with NUMSA against
international capital which continues a relentless exploitation of the working people, the
creators of the material wealth which is the basis of the survival of mankind.
Long live NUMSA
Long live SRWP
Long live SFG.
