SMG WOMEN’S WING CONGRATULATES VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT

Read Time: 2 minutes
Prof. Jane Naana Opoku – Agyemang

The Women’s Wing of the Socialist Movement of Ghana (WW- SMG) extends its heartfelt
congratulations to Prof. Jane Naana Opoku – Agyemang on her election as Ghana’s first female Vice
President. Your historic achievement represents a monumental step forward for women in Ghana
and it is a moment of immense pride and inspiration for all who believe in equality, justice, and the
transformative power of inclusive leadership.

This victory comes at a time when Ghanaian women, particularly those from working-class and
marginalised communities, have endured significant challenges under the neoliberal policies of
the ruling government. It unfairly taxed women’s sanitary products and which it regarded as luxury
goods and made decisions that affected the health, social and physical wellbeing of Ghanaian
women.

Your election offers a beacon of hope for a new approach to governance, one that we hope will
prioritise fairness, dignity, and meaningful representation for all women.
As you prepare to assume this esteemed role, we hope you will serve as a voice for all Ghanaians,
especially we urge you to champion policies that address the unique needs of working-class
women, eliminate unjust practices, and promote opportunities for those who have been
historically excluded. Your position is not just a personal milestone but a rallying point for the
advancement of all women in Ghana.

We stand with you Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as you work to bring about the change
Ghanaians have demanded.

May your tenure be marked by impactful service, a commitment to justice, and a legacy that will
open doors for younger women and girls in decision making.

Once again, congratulations on this well-deserved achievement. We look forward to witnessing the
positive change your leadership will bring to our nation.

In solidarity and with best wishes,

Signed.
Loretta Naa Dei Ashie
