SMG STATEMENT OF CONDEMNATION: ISRAEL’S AGGRESSION AGAINST IRAN

Read Time: 2 minutes

The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) issues this urgent and unequivocal condemnation of the
outrageous and unprovoked assault launched by the apartheid state of Israel against the sovereign nation
of Iran.
In the early hours of June 13, 2025, under the cowardly cloak of “Operation Rising Lion,” Israeli forces
carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing senior officials and scientists
in what amounts to nothing short of an act of war.

We must be clear and unapologetic: this is imperialist aggression. It is calculated, illegal, and
provocative. It has nothing to do with peace or security. This is the logic of domination by a nucleararmed
state that refuses to be held accountable for its crimes in Palestine and beyond. As socialists
rooted in anti-imperialist struggle and guided by the principles of international solidarity, we see this as
part of the broader architecture of violence used by global powers and their proxies to control the
destinies of independent nations.

This attack is a blatant violation of international law and an assault on the very foundations of the
United Nations Charter. It comes at a time when the world should be strengthening diplomacy, not
undermining it. Israel’s action spits in the face of ongoing diplomatic engagements between Iran and the
West and has drawn strong condemnation from governments across the globe including Russia, Turkey,
Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Indonesia. Yet the so-called champions of human rights in Washington,
London, and Brussels remain shamefully silent or, worse, complicit.

Let us not forget that Iran has every right, as any sovereign nation does, to defend itself and determine
its own path free from external sabotage, sanctions, and military aggression. The retaliatory launch of
drones by Iran is the predictable outcome of continuous provocation and decades of bullying.
The Socialist Movement of Ghana stands firmly with the people of Iran and all oppressed peoples
resisting imperialist aggression. We call for an immediate end to all hostilities and urge the international
community to reject this dangerous path toward wider regional war.

We demand:
 An immediate cessation of all military attacks by Israel and any retaliatory strikes that may escalate
the conflict further.
 Respect for Iran’s sovereignty and the sanctity of international law.
 The revival of genuine diplomatic negotiations that put the interests of people, not powerful elites or
arms manufacturers, at the centre.
 That African governments, in particular, speak out forcefully against this injustice. Africa knows
too well what it means to be at the receiving end of imperialist violence and must not be silent now.
We will not be intimidated into silence while injustice is dressed up as self-defense. We say clearly:
those who light the fires of war must be held accountable for the infernos they unleash.
The Socialist Movement of Ghana remains committed to the cause of peace—not the peace of the
graveyard, but the peace of justice, of freedom, and of peoples in control of their own futures.
Enough is enough. Imperialist war-mongering must end.
