SFG Salutes Venezuela Over Its December Polls

The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) has declared its solidarity with the People of Venezuela in yesterday’s elections held in that country.

 The SFG in a statement issued over the weekend signed by Comrade Justice Akuffo-Henaku, the Head of its International Relations said, “We affirm the right of Venezuela to deepen democratic practice by regularly subjecting national representation and leadership to the approval of the masses.  We congratulate the socialist leadership of Venezuela for their humility, their confidence in the People, their resilience, and the clarity of their cause.”

“The Venezuelan revolution has been the principal instrument of the Venezuelan people’s struggle against imperialist domination and for sovereignty, equitable development, human rights, and dignity. The revolution has always been about the popular mobilization of the people.  The revolution has repeatedly submitted itself to elections to affirm public confidence in the national process and its leadership.  It has defended Venezuelans’ control over leadership by electoral choice and by the right of recall for deputies that fail to live up to expectation.  It is important also to consider Venezuelans’ concrete and direct participation in community and provincial governance.  There is no legitimate question about Venezuela’s democratic credentials.”

Solidarity with Venezuela on its Democratic Elections on the 6^th December 2020

The Socialist Forum of Ghana declares its solidarity with the People of Venezuela in the upcoming elections.  We affirm the right of Venezuela to deepen democratic practice by regularly subjecting national representation and leadership to the approval of the masses.  We congratulate the socialist leadership of Venezuela for their humility, their confidence in the People, their resilience, and the clarity of their cause.

The Venezuelan revolution has been the principal instrument of the Venezuelan people’s struggle against imperialist domination and for sovereignty, equitable development, human rights, and dignity. The revolution has always been about the popular mobilization of the people.  The revolution has repeatedly submitted itself to elections to affirm public confidence in the national process and its leadership.  It has defended Venezuelans’ control over leadership by electoral choice and by the right of recall for deputies that fail to live up to expectation.  It is important also to consider Venezuelans’ concrete and direct participation in community and provincial governance.  There is no legitimate question about Venezuela’s democratic credentials. 

It is rather imperialist forces (and especially the United States) and their puppets within Venezuela that seek to undermine the upcoming elections. It is these forces that continue to make baseless charges of authoritarianism and dictatorship against the revolutionary process.  And significantly, it is precisely the growing strength of Venezuelan democracy that terrifies Imperialism.

US-led Imperialism has spent the last two decades working to dislodge popular democratic leadership throughout Latin America using hybrid techniques including “legal” challenges, sanctions, election rigging and direct support for armed insurgencies.  Most recently in Bolivia, the US organised a brazen coup d’état to depose Evo Morales and impose a pro-imperialist government on the people.  In Venezuela itself, they have promoted the claims of their puppet Guido who blatantly attacked the Venezuelan constitution and sought to impose himself as President.  The popular rejection of the Bolivian coup-makers was demonstrated decisively by the recent elections. Guido has been popularly rejected to the point where he is currently an embarrassment to his Western sponsors.  What the imperialist world seeks to prevent is the realisation in Latin America, and indeed across the world, that socialism is indeed popular, and that imperialism can be systematically defeated.  Indeed, after the 60 years example of the Cuban revolution, the demonstrated resilience of the Venezuelan revolution is completely unacceptable to Imperialism.  And they would rather abandon electoral politics than allow democratic processes to consolidate the revolution.

We call on the Venezuelan people to reject intimidation and vote freely, in accordance with their consciences. 

We call on the Venezuelan opposition to compete peacefully in the election based on their programme for Venezuelan development and not seek to take by force what they cannot win at the ballot box.

We call on the international community to take a stand for democracy and Venezuela’s right to develop as its people see fit.
