The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC), Ghana is calling on the Electoral Commission to as a matter of urgency, resolve all the teething challenges emanating from the 2020 Elections conducted on December 7.

According to them, the challenges and brewing tensions can only be curbed if the elections management body provides a level-playing field for all disputing parties.

“The FMC therefore calls on the Electoral Commission to accede to the request for an open collation of results in Techiman South constituency polls, which has not been done to date in contravention of the electoral rules.” The group said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, December 27 and signed by the group’s Secretary-General, Al-Hajj Mohammed Amir Kpakpo Addo, they condemned the dastardly killing of innocent civilians by some security personnel and called for investigations as well as appropriate sanctions to such officials of the uniform.

“The FMC, however, joins human rights lovers in strongly condemning the loss of innocent lives through acts of the police and military in the elections, including the outrageous use of brute force by the police on unarmed peaceful Ghanaians exercising their rights to protest.” The statement noted.

The renowned Muslim group has bemoaned government’s lackluster attitude in dealing with elections-related criminals. They have lamented the Akufo-Addo government’s refusal to punish perpetrators of the 2020 Voters’ Registration violence and described this as one of the reasons for the growing impunity in the country.
