Remarks at the “Warm Children’s Hearts, a China-Africa Joint Action” Program, May 28, 2023

Ms. Sheela Sakyi Oppong, Office of the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana,

Mr. John Kworshe Azumah, Director of the Motherly Love Orphanage,

Dr. DU Yushan, Captain of China medical team in Ghana,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Friends from the Media,

Good afternoon.

It’s a great honor for me to be here. First of all, on behalf of H.E. LU Kun, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana and the Chinese Embassy, I’d like to extend warm welcome to the dignitaries joining us today and heartfelt gratitude to the Office of the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana.

As the Chinese nursery rhyme goes, “children are flowers, carrying the future of the country”. Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China, has long cared about the cause of women and children in Ghana and Africa, hoping to help the flowers of Ghana grow up healthily and happily.

On occasion of the International Children’s day, Professor Peng has initiated the “Warm Children’s Hearts, a China-Africa Joint Action” program with the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS. As part of the program, the Chinese Embassy and China Medical Team are honored to join hands with the Office of the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, to pass on love and care from the first ladies of China and Ghana to the wonderful children of Ghana. May the flowers of Ghana bloom merrily!

Free Health Screening by the Medical Consultation from the 12th Batch of China Medical Team to Ghana

The year 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of dispatching medical teams to Africa by the Chinese Government. In the past decades, the China medical teams in Ghana, formed by top-notch doctors in China, have provided expertise to people in need, treated countless Ghanaian patients and saved many lives. You are “angels in white”, delivering health and hope to the Ghanaian people, and have become a symbol of friendship between our two countries.

Today, the Chinese Embassy and China medical team in Ghana have prepared a special gift for you: free health screening and “Love Packages”. I wish the flowers of Ghana grow up happily and carefree. China has been, and will always be here for the Ghanaian people, and make greater contributions to building a China-Africa community with a shared future.

Thank you and happy Children’s Day!
