The world over the years has been in a struggle between two factions. That is, those who believe
in the capitalist faction and the other also believe in socialist faction. These two have been
topical in the economic affairs of most countries across the world including, Brazil, South
Africa, Egypt, USA, just to mention but few. Socialism seeks to give opportunity to masses
and ensure social justice whilst capitalism on the other hand, is cantered on a few who want to
control the masses to fulfil their parochial interest. This is worrying and it keeps worsening
time after time as the gap between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie keeps widening. This has
made the situation of the working-class endemic and therefore, requires a swift approach and
strategic mechanisms to raise awareness and curb the situation.
Ghana is not an exception as the economy is driven by capitalist promoters at the expense of
the working-class. In the middle part of 2021, there was a trending issue about workers salary
increment where the president, Nana Akuffo Addo increased his by 79 percent and that of
workers by 4 percent. This was disheartening and appalling especially in the face of COVID19 and economic struggles. Even though pressure from civil societies and workers group did mean nothing to the president but for the coup that happened in Guinea made the president refund about GH₵238,000.00 which was related to some extent fat salary increment by the president and other factors which were geared towards exploiting the masses (working class).
The lesson drawn from the coup at Guinea and probably all other positive driven coups is such
that there is pressure from the masses through protest, demonstration and expressing
displeasure in the government.
There are others who have done this through aggressive campaigns and demonstrations but
were able to change the status quo. In Ghana, the current “Fix the country” protestors have
been popular on social media. However, the current government has been intimidating the
protestors through the use of some of the security agencies and the energy and morale behind
the championing of the course has reduced drastically.
Obviously, the capitalist will not allow the socialist to control the economy and therefore, the
struggle continues. This is then traced back to the era of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah when
he with others wanted to gain independence for Ghana. Many died, many were captured to
intimidate the masses, but Dr Kwame Nkrumah did not give up. He fought and won the battle
against the colonialists. Today, if Ghana is independent then Dr Kwame Nkrumah has to be
celebrated.
Apart, from that he embarked on economic drive through industrialization and Africanisation
to bring all African countries together. Especially, in Ghana he did a lot in industrialization and
his works can be felt and seen at every region in Ghana. We the Socialist Movement of Ghana
(SMG), Tarkwa collective wish to acknowledge the good works of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. We
are proud to mention the Bonsa Tyres factory and the Aboso Glass factory which were the key
industries to propel development in the area. The building of the gold refinery so that all gold
mined in Tarkwa could be refined to add value before export. Unfortunately, the vision of Dr
Kwame Nkrumah is shattered, and these factories are left in the bush to rot. It is painful to see
these important structures go waste but we still believe that despite his death, his vision still
lives.
We the members of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, Tarkwa collective on this special day
(112th birthday) of our great and most celebrated former and late president of the republic of
Ghana, we say Ayeeko!!! Your works are exceptional and cannot still be compared.
Viva Socialism!
Abash to imperialism!
