The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned the United States of America that it will not
tolerate any interference in the a:airs of the party and the management of Ghana.
Mr. Adam Sabo Abdul-Rahaman, a leading member of the Greater Accra Communication
Team of the party, said “Ghana is a sovereign state” and the US and its o:icials cannot be
imposing their will on the country.
Mr. Abdul-Rahman was reacting to a claim by Mr. Solomon Owusu, a member of the
Communications Team of the Movement for Change, that President Aku:o-Addo refused
to sign the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill into law on the instructions of US
Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking on the current a:airs programme “Alhaji and Alhaji”, Mr. Abdul-Rahman said Dr
Mahamoud Bawumia and the NPP will never accept the dictation of the government and
o:icials of the United States of America.
Mr. Owusu had alleged that Kamala Harris flew into Accra and virtually instructed
President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia not to sign the Bill.
Since the passage of the Bill, some six months ago, President Aku:o-Addo has refused
to sign it into law claiming that its constitutionality is being contested at the Supreme
Court.
Vice President Bawumia who is contesting the December 7 election as the presidential
candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said publicly that as a moslem, he is
opposed to homosexuality and all forms of un-natural sex.
Early this week, the speaker of Parliament Rt. Honourable Albin S. Bagbin stated publicly
that he will instruct the Clerk of Parliament to resubmit the Human Sexual Rights and
Family Values Bill to President Akufo-Addo for signature.
