Kojo Yankah
Senior citizen Kojo Yankah has brushed off the comments made by the New Patriotic Party’s Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh about Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, during his unveiling as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate on Tuesday.
The one-time Editor of the Daily Graphic expressed worry, suggesting the Manhyia South MP didn’t have to make such a pronouncement.
In a speech to party supporters in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, Dr. Opoku Prempeh praised President Akufo-Addo’s development record, stating that no other president has matched his achievements in developing the country.
“Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president who has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he explained.
However, in a Facebook post sighted by Metro TV, Kojo Yankah said It is utterly unacceptable for anyone seeking political office in Ghana to denigrate the legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Kojo Yankah suggests that Nkrumah’s contributions to Ghana’s independence and development are unparalleled, and his stature as a statesman and visionary leader remains unmatched.
“At the very least, the first president of Ghana, global political icon Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, should not be denigrated by anybody seeking political office in Ghana,” he wrote.
