NDC STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CITIZENS AT EJURA, ASHANTI REGION

Read Time: < 1 minute

The National Democratic Congress has learnt with great sadness and shock, news from Ejura in the Ashanti
Region, the killing and the causing of serious injuries to citizens who were protesting the murder of another
citizen of the town yesterday. Already there are reports of at least three persons dead and six hospitalized having
sustained serious injuries.
In view of the fluid security situation in Ejura, the National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and the
General Secretary, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, who are currently participating in a workshop at Ada organized
by the National Peace Council with sponsorship by the UNDP and the Commonwealth Secretariat, have left Ada
and are proceeding back to Accra to take charge of developments.
In the interim, the NDC appeals for calm in Ejura and call on the security agencies to be measured in the way and
manner in which they handle citizens who are exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to demonstrate to
protect the lives of innocent citizens.
ISSUED IN ADA THIS 29TH DAY OF JUNE, 2021
